Does the Brethren Church think it advantageous to advertise with such gusto, the "Sold Out" nature of its "in-house" rooming accommodations? In other words, it's not that the Conference, itself is filled. Why not state it a different way so that folks are still encouraged to come even though they may now have to search for nearby motels, etc.?
Hi Jim — this year's General Conference takes on a bit of a different flavor, in that the entire conference is all-inclusive. Meals, lodging, and registration are all included together. Since there is such a difference from other years, it was important to communicate clearly that indeed all of the space on-site is sold out. Others are welcome to search for nearby hotels, etc., as noted in the video, but we chose clear language so that there was not any question.
Often, we'll have attendees who will wait until June or early July to make arrangements to attend General Conference. In order to prevent misunderstandings, we chose to communicate strongly and clearly that registering that late would likely not be an option, and those who wish to attend by staying off campus will need to make arrangements ahead of time.
