At its Annual Celebration and Congregational Meeting, Northwest Community Church in Tucson, Arizona voted to merge with Living Hope Community Church, a non-denominational church in the Tucson area, to become Summit Ridge Community Church (www.summitridge.church).
The vote caps off a journey that began a year ago, when Dan Acker, Pastor of Northwest, and Dave Collins, Pastor of Living Hope, started talking and dreaming about what it could look for both churches to join together to reach Northwest Tucson and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Dave and Dan have known each other for twelve years and had even occasionally preached at each other’s churches. The two churches also worshiped together during Christmas and Easter over the past several years.
The two churches began formally worshipping together in April and spent the following months working out the details of the merged church. Part of this was adopting a new name as well as combining two staffs into one. As part of the merger, the pastors of Living Hope-Dave Collins and Cory Peters will become ordained in the Brethren Church. The official launch of Summit Ridge Community Church will be on Sunday, January 20, 2019.
