Baptisms in Raystown, PA
Acts 8:36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 37 Then Phillip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
Aside from Salvation, the second greatest joy would be baptism. On Sunday, August 30th along the banks of the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River a combined congregation of 70 people from the Raystown Brethren Church, pastored by Al Chamberlain and the Hopewell Grace Brethren Church, pastored by Mark Lingenfelter came together and witness the baptism of 6 individuals, 2 from Raystown and 4 from Grace Brethren.
Prior to the baptism on Friday, the River was extremely low, making baptism almost impossible at the site but God blessed us with a bounty of rain on Saturday morning which made baptism possible. God also blessed us with a beautiful sunshiny on Sunday.
Three of those being baptized were lifelong friends, brothers Vaughn and Harry Lynn from the Raystown Brethren Church, and Stan Miller from the Hopewell Grace Brethren Church. Others baptized from Hopewell Grace Brethren were Parker Claycomb, Brody, and Connor Weyant. Pastor Mark had the privilege of baptizing two of his grandsons, Brody, and Connor, which brought great joy to him.
Keeping with Brethren tradition, after the baptism both congregations met at the Chamberlain pavilion and had a great time of fellowship and shared in some delicious food.
At the end of a beautiful day, we discussed having more joined baptism services between the two churches.
Ps.133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
