SABBATICAL RESOURCES

The Barna Group recently presented alarming statistics concerning pastors in the United States. According to their numbers, 42% of pastors have thought deeply about leaving their current church and the ministry. Over 50% are deeply discouraged spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, with many swiftly approaching burnout. Those leaving or thinking about leaving cite overwhelming job stress as the number one cause.

A Sabbatical presents a financial cost, both for the pastor and the congregation. Unfortunately, due to this cost, pastors have too often served for decades without this critical time to get their heads above water and breathe.

"The lack of a Sabbatical leads to complacent leadership, apathy, or operating from an empty well."

SABBATICAL GRANT OPPORTUNITY

The 2023 Brethren General Conference raised funds for churches to begin building a sabbatical culture into the fabric of their church. Doing so is a benefit not only to the pastor but also to the church. Everyone wins when there is a plan for a well-crafted sabbatical. To assist in this process, the Vitality office has created a Sabbatical Grant designed to help interested churches receive a portion of the raised funds to begin building a sabbatical culture in their church.
